Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role
The grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Despite his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people's lives, including his own. When asked by Bill Lawrence how they got Harrison Ford to be on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted "a Harrison Ford type." and intended to cast people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least introduce him to Ford, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been offered the project, sparking interest from other big-name actors.
Jason Segel is perfect for this script
Goldstein still doesn't understand what he did to convince him, but he was elated nonetheless.. Featured on WatchMojo: The 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). And the rest of the show is great, too. He has the weird, idiotically confident energy that the role requires.
And Jessica is perfect
Her humor is just right for the dialogue. It’s a new way of doing situation drama. No special features, just engaging personalities with a touch of weirdness, and family circumstances that are a little bit beyond the norm, but still similar. Of course, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd.
It’s just impossible
You’d lose your license right away. But in drama, we allow metaphorical situations. And in this script, we feel a strong sense of directionality. We have to give the writers a benefit and try to get the point across.
